Ingredients

Units Scale

Fruit Filling

  • 4 cups sliced peaches (fresh or canned, drained)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk

Additional

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare butter: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the 1/2 cup of unsalted butter in a 9×13 inch baking dish and put it in the oven to melt while you prepare the other ingredients.
  2. Make the batter: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir in 1 cup of whole milk until the mixture forms a smooth batter.
  3. Assemble batter and butter: Once the butter has fully melted in the baking dish, carefully pour the batter over the melted butter. Do not stir to allow the butter to create a rich crust underneath the batter.
  4. Prepare peach topping: In a separate bowl, toss the sliced peaches with the remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon until evenly coated.
  5. Add peaches to batter: Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter in the baking dish. Again, do not stir to maintain the distinct layers during baking.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbling around the edges.
  7. Cooling: Remove from the oven and allow the cobbler to cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. This rest allows the cobbler to set and makes it easier to serve.

Notes

  • For best results, use ripe fresh peaches; however, well-drained canned peaches are a great alternative when fresh are not available.
  • Do not stir the batter after pouring over the butter or after adding the peaches; this layering technique is key to the classic texture.
  • If desired, serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra indulgence.
  • This cobbler can be slightly reheated in the oven before serving if made ahead.
